But Miley’s road to her happily ever after with Maxx hasn’t been a perfectly carved path. In fact, the “Angels Like You” singer admitted that she had to get it wrong a few times to make it right. Earlier this year, she reflected on her previous marriage to the Hunger Games alum, noting she had tried to change parts of herself to make it last.
“I was like, well, ‘I’m safe and I’m clean and I’m wearing all white and I’m singing songs about nature,’” Miley noted of her Younger Now era during an appearance on the Every Single Album podcast in June, noting during that time she was “just trying to find a persona that could keep my personal life intact.”
Ultimately, though, Miley had to block out the noise when it came to what to do in her romantic life—even ignoring the advice of her own mom Tish Cyrus.
“I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me,” she explained in an interview with her mom, as well as sisters Noah Cyrus and Brandi Cyrus, in The Cut in September. “I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself.”
Of course, the climb was worth it—because the view is great. As Miley put it, “My man’s hot as hell too.”
