June Squibb won’t be riding a motorized scooter into retirement anytime soon.
In fact, at 95 years old, June’s onscreen career is only reaching new heights, with her first starring role occurring in 2024’s Thelma and her next as the eponymous protagonist in Scarlett Johansson’s Eleanor the Great hitting theaters Sept. 26.
If she were to retire, as June put it to E! News’ Francesca Amiker at Eleanor’s North American premiere at TIFF Sept. 8, “What would I do? I think people would be crazy with me if I wasn’t working.”
So, instead of hanging up her hat, June is setting her sights on another professional milestone: Starting in December, the Nebraska actress will star as Marjorie Prime in Marjorie Prime on Broadway.
“I had a long career in the theater before I ever started doing film,” she explained. “I was in my 60s when I started film.”
She continued, “So it’s like going back home in a way, you know. And it’s a great script I’m doing, and a short time period of time.”
