Jodie Sweetin shares how she connected with John Stamos over sobriety

Jodie Sweetin shared how she and “Full House” co-star John Stamos have “celebrated” one another along the road to sobriety.

“John and I really, really connected in a lot of ways over [sobriety]” the actress said during a July 15 appearance on “The Dory Jackson Interview. ”

She added that Stamos, 62, “presented me with an award several years back for some of the work that I’d done” — referencing her Experience, Strength and Hope Awards honor back in 2019.

“We have been there to celebrate each other’s big successes and milestones, and I am so glad that I got to be an example of attraction rather than promotion, which is a big principle in recovery,” Sweetin, 44, continued.

Sweetin noted that those in recovery follow the principle, which she summarized as “be[ing] the result of all of your work, and chances are, people that are looking will find you.”

The mom of two — who authored “unSweetined,” which covered her journey to recovery — recalled that she had her last drink in 2011. Stamos, meanwhile, stopped drinking back in 2015.

“It’s been such a journey — the work I did in 12-step programs, the work I did in outside programs and therapy and also just kind of growing up and, and perspective, you know, all of those things,” she explained.

Sweetin divulged that being sober since 2011 had been “very freeing” for her, and that it offered her an opportunity to see what she’s “capable of.”

“You get the opportunity to become a different person, and once you start actually liking that person, it becomes really hard to go back and continue destructive behavior,” she said in the YouTube interview.

A rep for Stamos did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment on Saturday.

Stamos divulged to People in 2023 that after he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Beverly Hills in June 2015, he went home from the hospital and “drank a bottle of wine just to forget what just happened.”

Following the incident, Stamos admitted, he filmed “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” in Canada “loosely buzzed” before entering a 30-day substance abuse program.

“I hated it. I really hated the way I felt, hated disappointing people, hated myself, hated looking in the mirror, going, ‘This is not who my parents raised. What am I doing? Who is this idiot?’” he told Mayim Bialik during an appearance on her podcast in 2023.

In 2019, when Stamos honored Sweetin with the Experience, Strength and Hope Awards honor for her memoir, he gushed over his co-star’s support, saying that he “hit rock bottom.”

“Jodie lovingly allowed me to walk my own path and when I finally humbled myself to ask for your help, I realized that the perky little blabbermouth had become the master of wisdom and was right by my side during some of the most difficult days of my life,” he said at the time, per Variety.
