NASCAR’s Kyle Busch Cause of Death: Pneumonia, Sepsis


Additional details surrounding Kyle Busch‘s passing have been shared.

Two days after the NASCAR Cup Series champion died at age 41, his family confirmed his cause of death was severe pneumonia, which progressed into sepsis.

“The medical evaluation provided to the Busch Family concluded that severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming associated complications,” the Busch family said in a May 23 statement, per NBC News. “The family asks for continued understanding and privacy during this difficult time.”

Just hours before the news of the driver’s death, Busch’s family shared he had been hospitalized with “a severe illness.”

“He is currently undergoing treatment,” the May 21 post on X read, “and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”

NASCAR confirmed the racecar driver—dad to kids Brexton, 11, and Lennix, 4, with wife Samantha Buschlater that same day.
