HGTV star Hilary Farr was forced to address “devastating” health rumors after AI-generated images showing her in declining health began circulating online.
Farr, 74, took to Instagram on Thursday to respond to the “fake beyond words” report, sharing a screenshot of the claim that she was being treated for cancer.
“Ta daaa,” she opened the clip, appearing in front of the image with a green screen effect. “I’m alive. Very, very, very much so alive and well, I’m happy to say,” Farr continued.
“Look at this thing, really?!” she said of the “crazy, AI stuff.”
The fake report showed four images of Farr — one of which showed her wearing a hospital gown and oxygen mask with a headline that read, “She might not make it.”
“The physician caring for Hilary Farr’s cancer has provided a devastating update on her health: ‘She might never be seen on TV in the future,’” the report was captioned.
“So, look at this thing. Really. It’s so badly done,” the “Love it or List it” host continued in the video.
“I hope none of you would really take any of this seriously and realize it is just fake beyond words.”
“Well, I’m here to prove that. So, just checking in. All’s good with me, hope all’s good with you,” she closed.
Many of the TV personality’s fans hopped in the comments section expressing their relief over the good news and praising the star for calling out AI-generated scams.
“Thank God you are healthy and thank you for setting the record straight!” one fan commented, wishing her and her family happy holidays.
Another wrote, “Nice to see you! This AI stuff is getting old and out of hand! So happy you’re addressing it! Enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend.”
“I’m so happy you’re good!” another Instagram user shared. “It would break my heart to hear any of that was true. Rock on Hilary.”
Farr previously revealed in 2021 that she secretly battled breast cancer after her 2014 diagnosis, per People.
She has reportedly been in remission since 2022.
